Hi all!
Last week of semester!
The final exam timetable for Semester 1 2009 is now available from Curtin's Examinations website; make sure you know where and when your exams are. The last few weeks of semester can be a very stressful time of semester and it’s good to stay healthy and manage your time well.
Before the Exams
Here are a few reminders to help you cope as you draw closer to exams...
- Get plenty of sleep/rest and eat well! If exam anxiety keeps you up at night or unsettles you then you’d probably want to attend a session on “Managing Exam Anxiety”. Visit Counselling Services’ website for more information.
- If you would like to learn about effective strategies for exam preparation, The Learning Centre will be running sessions on study management. Visit the website for more information. http://learningcentre.curtin.edu.au/programs/studyplus/study_management_schedule.cfm
- The Communication Skills Centre in Building 407.202 will be running workshops on techniques to help you perform well when writing essays in exams. If this is something that you need to sign up for, contact Carmela Briguglio at Email: c.briguglio@curtin.edu.au (Tel: +61 8 9266 3079) or Julie Howe at Email: j.a.howe@curtin.edu.au (Tel: +61 8 9266 7773. http://business.curtin.edu.au/business/current-students
Other Exam Issues...
1. So what if you fall sick on the day that you have an exam? You will need a medical certificate to apply for a ‘deferred assessment’. You will also need to contact the Unit Coordinator as soon as possible and let them know you didn’t sit the exam.
2. If there are circumstances that warrant deferring your exams for example (death in the family, unavoidable work commitments, commitments to elite sport activities etc) then you can lodge an application for deferred assessment before the date of your exam. Download the “Application for Deferred Assessment” form and hand it to your Unit Coordinator or course department. The form outlines procedure you would need to follow.
3. If you are unable to sit your exams under standard conditions because of a medical condition, disability or religious reasons please follow instructions on the following link http://examinations.curtin.edu.au/students/equity.cfm then make an appointment with University Counselling Services before your exam.
After the Exam!
Your examination results will only be available through OASIS on the evening of 8 July 2009. Keep an eye out for your “Academic Standing” which can change each semester from ‘Good’ to ‘Conditional’ or even ’Terminated’. There will be more information to help you address ‘conditional’ and ‘terminated’ status in our next e-Newsletter. Expect to receive it closer to time when your results are released.
Till then remember that, “the only place success comes before work is in the dictionary...” there is no substitute for hard work!

Cheers and all the best!
