Safety on public transport

Keep yourself, and your belongings, safe and secure while taking public transport by familiarising yourself with the various safety features and procedures that have be implemented.

Perth's public transport system, Transperth, is generally quite safe. Buses and trains generally have security cameras installed and security officers are often found on trains. It is possible, though, that potentially dangerous situations can arise. Curtin Security also provides some ideas to keep in mind for Public Transport Safety.

  • If you are catching a bus, check the timetable before hand, so that you are not waiting at the bus stop for long periods. Select a well-lit bus stop at night and make sure that you can see the area around you.
  • If you're on a bus or train that is nearly empty, sit near the bus driver or as close as possible to the guard's compartment.
  • Keep your valuables with you at all times.
  • Placing a bag or similar under your seat may allow someone from behind to search its contents without you knowing.
